Lot 4497
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 23 mm, 3.63 g), brockage mint error. Treveri, 310-313. CONSTAN[TINV]S P F AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. [MARTI CONSERV]ATORI [Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Mars to right]. Cf. RIC 884. A very interesting and highly unusual mint error. Minor flan cracks and areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The legend and weight indicate that this is RIC 884. Most of the reverse shows the imprint of the obverse of a similar coin, which had apparently become jammed in the reverse die.
